As well as normal club events, our members actively participate in events organised by the various Sections within the club. These sections cater for specific requirements of their membership. Each section within the club has its own Captain, and members run and participate in golf and social events.
As well as our regular Gents Section, we have additional Sections for Ladies, Juniors and for Gents Senior members over the age of 55.
Senior Section
The “Ancient Druids” is an active section of the club for gentlemen playing members who are 55 years of age and above. We organise and participate in a range of competitions, matches and social events throughout the year and, in so doing, raise worthwhile sums of money for the charities nominated by our Club Captain, Ladies’ Captain, Junior Captain and Seniors’ Captain.
At present there are over 150 Ancient Druids, representing over 25% of the Club’s playing membership. Our philosophy is to offer a variety of inclusive opportunities for Senior Members to enjoy competitive golf in a sociable and friendly environment.
As well as running 14 seniors’ Competitions we also have our own Winter League and play Team Matches against 14 other Clubs’ Senior Sections. These 28 matches are played on a ‘home and away’ basis from March to October every year. Following each match, we enjoy a meal, and friendly conversation over a drink or two with our opponents.
However, the “Jewel in our Crown” is the seniors’ Charity Open in July, when close to 200 players from all over the Midlands and beyond, join us for a 4 ball-better ball competition with an extensive array of competition and raffle prizes.
Members wishing to join the Ancient Druids, please find the respective information on the Ancient Druids notice board.
The club has formed a steering committee which is supported by a team of experienced members and several younger members. Our aim is to provide more golfing opportunities for younger people, to attract more golfers male and female to come to Druids Heath and take up the game of golf.
We have achieved SAFEGOLF accreditation. This means that the club is recognised as having in place all the correct processes and procedures in dealing with young people. We have increased the number of competitions for our juniors and have ideas of creating even more. The section benefits from it's very own Junior Organiser who creates a fund, varied and safe environment for all our junior members.
We are well supported by the rest of the club members as everyone at Druids Heath understands that to bring on our next generation of members it is essential to have a thriving and active Junior Section. The Club have encouraged the Junior Section by supporting their competitions, presentation evenings and sponsorship for the teams. The Club also provides very generous terms to encourage Junior Membership and to take this through to full adult membership in progressive payments rather than a jump up to full membership cost
Our section is around 64 strong, with a range of ages. Throughout the summer season ladies competitions are held on Thursdays and Sundays and our main social golf days are Tuesdays and Saturdays. Social golf is a mixture of 9 and 18 holes, meeting for coffee after play.
In addition to our 27 trophies we run external qualifiers, mixed comps, Opens, County comps and leagues and Lady Captain competitions. For those who prefer 9-holes, regular competitions are held on our front 9 measured course, enabling ladies to maintain their handicap.
Throughout the year everyone is encouraged to play in the ‘eclectic’ competition where you pit your skills against the course. Some qualifying competitions are run in the winter months but mainly we hold fun 9 hole comps where 50% of the entry fee goes to the Lady Captain's charity.
We usually stay for coffee after play. Every Thursday, throughout the year, there is a 1st tee closure 8.15 - 9.15am for ladies competitions and again we gather for coffee between 12 noon and 1pm.
